Have you ever wondered how life appears behind the looking glass of a comic artist? Or how comic artists can ‘transform’ the harsh reality of the everyday (which sometimes can provoke mixed emotions and anxiety) into fun, consumable stories and products? In this digital era, in what way is the viewpoint of a comic artist impacted and determined by the need of their audience? Join us in the 15th edition of Creative Sessions with Phan Kim Thanh – author of Vàng Vàng (a comic character representing Vietnam) and the series’ humorous look into social/political issues between different countries; and ‘Afterlife’, a series light-heartedly portraying life after death.
In this talk, Phan Kim Thanh will share with us the inspiration behind her trademark satirical style, and walk us through her journey as a comic artist working in the digital era. What motivates the author to choose a playful, yet pleasant approach when it comes to exploring such intense topics as economic and political conflicts between countries, or death? Will this decision become a highlight or an obstacle in her career path? Let’s look for the answers in this upcoming Creative Sessions 15.
