ON THE BOOK ‘OIL PAINTING TECHNIQUE’

  • This event has passed.

Speaker: Nguyễn Đình Đăng
Date: 12 March 2019
Time: 7 – 9pm
Language: Vietnamese only

‘Oil Painting Techniques’ is a book scientifically and systematically compiled and edited, created with the knowledge and practical experience from the author’s more than four decades of oil painting.

This can be considered the first and most comprehensive ‘textbook’ about oil painting techniques, practiced and studied by a Vietnamese artist, published by Dong A Cultural Joint Stock Company and Dan Tri Publishing House in Vietnam (2018); Art students, painters, art researchers and general art lovers interested in painting will find here the in-depth knowledge of oil painting in general and classic techniques in particular: the history of oil painting from the beginning to the contemporary times, details about each type of ingredients in oil paint and their characteristics; rules of safety and preservations; thorough analyses of the painting methods of various schools of arts and classic artists, as well as the author’s own painting techniques. ‘Oil Painting Techniques’ is an important reference material, the first in Vietnamese language, systematically delivering the method used by classic masters: the multi-layered oil painting technique, which has brought glory to oil painting in the last 600 years since the 15th century.

Following the discussion, author Nguyễn Đình Đăng will share the book’s content with behind-the-scene stories of his research aiming to bring knowledge and an opportunity to learn for arts students, teachers and oil painting practitioners.
