In this show, Ngô Hồng Quang will introduce a few songs from his latest album ‘Nam Nhi’, a special album for “Quan họ” (a popular form of romantic antiphonal folk singing in Bắc Ninh and Bắc Giang provinces, North Vietnam), and Northern Vietnamese Mountain folk music, performing with beat-boxer Trung Bảo.
Bringing traditional materials and newly created contemporary elements together, Quang freed himself by not singing in original styles by working with beat-boxing, while still following the lyrical expressions that exist in the northern part of Vietnam. This unique pairing will take the listener to a new type/genre of music.
For fans of Northern Vietnamese folk music, this creation will be a fresh touch on the already-so-familiar melodies; and for those new to this kind of music, it can be an interesting exploration.
