ART TOUR WITH LY HOÀNG LY AND BILL NGUYỄN

  • This event has passed.
Speakers: Ly Hoàng Ly and Bill Nguyễn
Date: 10 September 2017
Time: 10AM – 12PM (Vietnamese tour) and 2PM – 4PM (Vietmamese tour with English translation)

From the seed of an idea, to one of the most ambitious exhibitions. From sketches, technical drawings and prototypes, to multiple bodies of artworks that are both stimulating in their visuals and critical in their ideas. From the dream of one artist, to the belief and collaboration of a collective of experts from different fields over the last 6 years. What are the motivations that have pushed, the obstacles that have challenged, and the fires that have inspired Ly Hoàng Ly’s first solo exhibition in Vietnam? The Factory would like to invite you for an art tour with Ly and the exhibition’s curator Bill Nguyen. Come, listen and ask them both about her practice, process, idea and intent.

Respected at home and abroad as one of the most critically acclaimed artists of her generation, and constantly extending what is locally considered traditional and experimental, Ly Hoàng Ly (born 1975 in Hanoi, now based in Ho Chi Minh City)’s diverse oeuvre brings together poetry and performance, text and sculpture, sound and public art – to name a few. Graduating from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts in 1998, she received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2011, earned her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2013 and spent a year interning at the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection (SAIC). Her work raises questions about the general human condition; the critical state of society; the fluctuating nature of identity and history; and our shared issues of division and union, adaptation and acceptance.
