CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SELECTED ‘CURATORIAL ASSOCIATES’!

Congratulations to the selected ‘Curatorial Associates’ Linh Lê (Vietnam) and Adam Porter (Australia)!

Curatorial Associates Program

The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre is pleased to be collaborating with Australia Council for the Arts in its ‘Curatorial Associates Program’ which gives Australian and Asian curators a unique opportunity to build Asia consciousness and capability, foster relationships with international artists, and develop an understanding of alternative curatorial contexts. In 2020/2021 the Australia Council is offering associateship opportunities for one Vietnamese curator living in Vietnam, to undertake this residency in Australia with 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art; and one for an Australian curator living in Australia, to undertake this residency in Vietnam with The Factory Contemporary Art Centre.

Successful candidates receive a grant each to cover their own travel, visas, accommodation, meals and allied expenses for the 6 weeks period of the program (with the help of their respective hosts).

About the Associates and their proposed areas of research

Linh Lê is an aspiring writer and researcher from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She is interested in performance studies and its possible interdigitations with visual arts. Upon her placement at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (Sydney), Linh wishes to hone her skills in research and curating, while receiving guidance on her current research-curatorial project, which dwells on the performative relationship between people and propagandist public spaces in Vietnam. Linh holds a BA (Honours) in Arts Management from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore).

Adam Porter is an Asian-Australian curator of contemporary visual art currently based in Western Sydney, Australia. Currently, he is the Senior Curator Contemporary Visual Art at Campbelltown Arts Centre. Porter’s curatorial examinations have centered on the semiotics and aesthetic of ruins, destruction and degradation as conveyance for cultural memory and renewal – such interests of relevance to his contribution, via this Associateship, to the public programming and development of The Factory’s inaugural ‘Realigning the Cosmos’ Fellowship. Porter holds a Bachelor of Arts (Double Major in Art History and Cinema Studies / Social and Cultural Analysis) from the University of Western Sydney (2009). He also holds a Masters Degree in Art Curatorship from the University of Sydney (2010).

*Exact dates of residency are now under revision due to the current coronavirus pandemic
