Nguyễn Thị Châu Giang

b. 1975, Ho Chi Minh City

Nguyễn Thị Châu Giang is a graduate in oil painting from the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts University. In 2011, Châu Giang turned to silk as her medium, drawn to its lightness and the way her female figures appeared bolder, the watercolor more refined than oil. Châu Giang’s handling of paint reflects her training, her opaque use of broad color and ability to give weight to objects recalling the figurative tableau of painter Frida Kahlo; while her delicate line-work and patterning recalls the symbolic cycle of death and rebirth in nature. Her art embraces painting, performance and installation, her work is represented in the collections of the Singapore Art Museum, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum and the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. Recent projects include: ‘Bold Strokes – Celebration of Life and Art’, Art Vietnam, Hanoi, 2016; ‘Women in between: Asian Women Artists’, Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, Tochigi, Japan, 2013; ‘Vietnam New’, The Rotunda, Exchange Square, Central, Hong Kong, 2012;  ‘Hidden Flower’ (solo), Thavibu Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand, 2011.
