Born in Cambodia, grew up in Vietnam and now a Londoner, Writer/Director Hong Khaou completed his BA Hons degree in Film & Video at Surrey Institutes of Art of Design (UK). He spent 7 years at an independent film distribution company, Peccadillo Pictures, managing their Home Entertainment department, and attending film festivals as part of their acquisition team. Having sold to over 12 territories internationally, his debut feature film ‘Lilting’ stars Ben Whishaw and Cheng Pei Pei, and is being distributed by Artificial Eye for the UK, Protagonist Pictures handling the international sales. Its world premier was at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, in the World Dramatic Competition, winning the Best Cinematography Award. Hong was named as one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow for 2013; and was nominated for Best Debut Director at the 2014 British Independent Film Award in 2014, while also securing a BAFTA nomination for Outstand Debut By A British Writer, Director or Producer in 2015.
