Accompanying Thy Nguyễn’s solo exhibition ‘Other Futures’, this printmaking workshop hopes to shed light on the ‘behind-the-scene’ of Thy’s practice, as well as providing an opportunity for participants to produce their own prints!
Consisting of various repetitive and labour intensive steps towards the production of the final artwork, printmaking is often thought to be a ‘mechanical’ artform. However, since the printing process is done entirely by hand, the smallest changes (in colors, choice of ink or amount of force the hands apply, to name but a few) could lead to unpredictable results. It is precisely these unknown possibilities – or rather, moments of imaginative chance encounters – that Thy Nguyễn aspires to explore in his works.
