ART TOUR WITH CURATOR BILL NGUYỄN

  • This event has passed.

Speaker: Bill Nguyễn
Date: 8 April 2018
Time: 4PM – 6PM

Join curator Bill Nguyễn for an art tour of ‘In One’s Breath – Nothing Stands Still’ (on until 9 May), a solo exhibition by Hanoi-based artist Tuấn Mami that seeks to provoke questions about the complex relationship between humans and nature.

‘In One’s Breath – Nothing Stands Still’ – the result of Tuấn Mami’s ongoing research (since 2014), in the stone mining communities of Hà Nam in Northern Vietnam – tells a tale of the significant loss of plant life caused by the irresponsibility of mining companies, and the devastating impact it is having on local cultural traditions and everyday life. This tale also reflects larger concerns regarding the destruction of the environment  by human activity. Since the beginning of time, human existence has depended on the the natural world for survival. Whilst we harvest the land and have relied on the diversity of sea-life, we have also exploited such natural resources (eg. extraction of raw minerals). We consider ourselves to be a part of nature, so why is it that we continue to act as if separated from it? Together we shall attempt to find out at the tour!
