TAN Vatey

TAN Vatey is an interdisciplinary artist and designer who also enjoys teaching art and collaborating with other artists and non-profits. Vatey has exhibited extensively within Cambodia, including Constable Gallery at Large, Siem Reap (2016), the Artists Calling by Cambodian Living Arts (2017) and ‘Kraanh Norneal’ (2017) at Sa Sa Art Projects, Phnom Penh, ‘Snapshot’ (2018) at Sangker Gallery, Battambang, ‘Facing the Climate’, touring exhibition by the Swedish Embassy (2018). Recently her art has begun taking her abroad: Vatey was elected to participate in ‘Mutual Unknown’, a research-exchange project by Goethe Institute, initiated by CuratorsLAB, a South-East Asian network of curators. The project culminated in a group exhibition at Galeri Nasional Indonesia in Jakarta (2017). Together with Indonesian-Belgian arts-instigator Sinta Wibowo, Vatey ventures into live experimentations throughout the animated exhibitions of [re-enacting memories] (2017-ongoing), for Europalia Art Festival, Brussels, and Rainbow Community Kampuchea, Phnom Penh, as well as the walkshops of [watch & wa/onder] (2018-ongoing) in Semarang, Indonesia, and Shaxi, China. She was an artist in residency at Sa Sa Bassac, 2016, Newfoundland in Belgium, 2017, and Vermont Studio Center in the USA, 2018, leading to artist talks at Asia Society and Asian Arts Council in NYC.
