Nguyễn Ngọc Thạch
b. 1991, HCMC
Born in Quang Ngai and a graduate from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, Nguyễn Ngọc Thạch is intrigued by the rise of anxiety associated with social issues in capitalist ways of life (such as class inequality and social isolation, particularly drawn to humans subsequent lack of ability to love and empathize. In his recent works, Thạch attempts to give shape to this condition, often distorting human figures in order to illustrate the psychological defect they have to experience, while their society paves the way for more modernisation and industrialisation. Select exhibitions include the Ho Chi Minh City Young Artists Biennale (2017); ‘ASYAAF & Hidden Artists Festival’ (Seoul, Korea, 2016); ‘New Artworks’ (Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, 2016).
