Duo Siedl/Cao is formed in 2013 by Vienna-based composers-performers Cao Thanh Lan (Vietnam) Gregor Siedl (Austria). The collective explores the borders between contemporary electronic and instrumental music, between music theatre and sound art. Their works have always been centered on the physical experience of sound and the inherent link between visual – audio – space elements. Duo Siedl/Cao applies the diverse materials for their works, from musical instruments (such as clarinet, daxophone, marxophone) to the busy sounds of urban life. They mix and embed the sounds in various places, to challenge the conventional understanding of a ‘theatre’. Their performances have been featured at international festivals and concert venues including Europe, Japan, Brasil, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Australia and Indonesia. Some of their significant events: Operadagen Netherlands 2018, Musiktheatertagen Vienna 2018, amongst others. Duo Siedl/Cao has also given workshops on contemporary composition and improvisation at various universities and institutions, contributing to the development of the contemporary musical arts scene and inspiring young people who enjoy arts and creativity.
