site / shine / sight’ is a duo exhibition at the Factory, the first of its kind in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring the collaboration between visual artist Trương Quế Chi and architectural studio, vn-a (on view until 18 Nov). For this ambitious project, they will transform the space of The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre into a dim maze, where all light emits from the various sculpture, installation and photography within the recesses of particularly placed, structurally specific louvers. In this tour, curator Arlette Quỳnh-Anh Trần, who has been with the artist throughout the development of this project, will lead visitors through each of the important elements in the installation: objects, space, light. Here, we will step into a strange place, and together we learn how the architecture of Ka Don church (Lam Dong) has been applied in the installations of the show; exploring the initial artistic inspiration from the landscape and specific culture of the Central Highlands; towards an experience of Trương Quế Chi’s practice where she uses everyday objects to challenge the definition of art and how its meaning shifts between its public and private experience.

As Director and Curator of Post Vidai and a member of the collective Art Labor collective, Arlette Quỳnh-Anh Trần has also participated in various cultural and visual art projects as coordinator, curator, researcher or advisor. Her curatorial practice aims to go beyond mere aesthetic value of art and considers art as a catalyst, which uses visual language to interpret, question, and narrate multiple spheres of life and disciplines. She focuses on collaborative labour between visual art and other disciplines, from natural and social sciences to business, design and fashion. Arlette has contributed her research, writing and thoughts to various local and international publications, exhibitions and projects, including the ‘Istanbul Biennale’ 2015; ‘Hugo Boss Asia Award’ 2015; 2084 (2012) with Pelin Tan and Anton Vidokle; ‘Digitizing the Archival Materials of Blue Space Contemporary Arts Centre’, for Asia Art Archive;  ‘World Biennale Forum No. 1’, Kwangju, Korea; ‘synapse – International Curator Network’, HKW, Berlin; and numerous solo and group shows for young emerging artists in the region.
