The Factory is pleased to present a book launch and discussion with author Ngô Kim-Khôi about his research on the rarely-documented Vietnamese artist Thang Trần Phềnh (1895 – 1973). Including valuable information and rare documentary images, this book is expected to make an important contribution to the research on Vietnamese modern art during Indochina time.
By examining Thang Trần Phềnh’s changes in style and signature throughout his life, Ngô Kim-Khôi’s book follows both the artist’s life and his career. Born 18 May 1895 in Hanoi, Trần Phềnh expressed his gift for painting at a young age; always ranked first place in his art class at high school. Later in life, he further pursued his passion at the Fine Arts College of Indochina (the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine), and for awhile, his art was sold and exhibited abroad, as he was considered a national treasure of Vietnam.
Attend the book launch; get a chance to directly discuss with the author Ngô Kim-Khôi; and buy yourself a copy (with the author’s signature) at the special price of 500,000VND (cover price: 750,000VND). This book is in Vietnamese and published by the Fine Arts Publishing house in 2018.
The event takes place in Vietnamese only.
